Sustainability - targets and governance
We at Ellevio enable and drive the transition to a sustainable society. This is reflected in the economic, social and environmental responsibility we take. To live up to high expectations and standards in these areas we work to ensure that sustainability is an integral part of our business and our approach to people, the environment and profitability.
Our sustainability targets
Ellevio has a number of overall long-term sustainability goals that guide us in our efforts to run and develop our business in a long-term and responsible way:
- Ellevio has defined overall long-term sustainability goals that guide us in our efforts to manage and develop our business in a long-term and responsible way.
- Climate impact. We work together with our customers, suppliers and partners to contribute to sustainable development in society, and sustainability is an integral part of our organization and our business processes.
- Safety. Our safety culture is well integrated in the company and all the way out in the field. This means that we are approaching the zero vision against accidents.
- Customer experience. Our customers see us as reliable, committed and proactive. We create conditions for our customers to contribute to the development of a fossil-free society.
- Regulatory conditions. Sweden has a long-term and sustainable electricity grid regulation that enables investments to achieve the climate goals.
- Long-term investments. We have a delivery security that meets the needs of customers and society based on efficient investments, automation and remote control. Total connected renewable electricity production in Ellevio's electricity grid has increased sharply.
- Employee engagement. We are an attractive and inclusive company where diversity contributes to success. We are the first choice for experienced engineers, highly qualified employees, managers and recent graduates.
Our key stakeholders are customers, employees, shareholders, investors, contractors, suppliers of goods and services, authorities, decision-makers, the media, organizations in the energy sector, interest groups and the local community in which we operate.
Through collaboration and dialogue, we listen closely to our key stakeholders to understand their expectations on us. We also work to share our knowledge and present our views. Through surveys, meetings and by tapping into the general debate in society, we gain additional knowledge about expectations, so that we can drive our own and the industry's development in the right direction. We include the result in our business planning and in our work to develop our business in a more sustainable direction.
Code of Conduct
Ellevio's operations are conducted in a monopoly position, which means that we have an even greater responsibility towards the outside world. It is important for us to live up to the requirements and expectations of our customers and other stakeholders. We want to earn their trust. How we should behave is described in our Code of Conduct. We continuously conduct training, workplace meetings and internal audits ensure that the Code of Conduct is complied with.
Ellevio supports the UN Sustainable Development Goals (Agenda 2030) and the Paris Agreement. We recognize that we have a key role in achieving Sweden’s goal to become a climate-neutral society by 2045. We report according to the Global Reporting Initiative and support the UN Global Compact.
At Ellevio our day-to-day work in sustainability is led by a Sustainability Manager who reports to the Head of People, Culture & Sustainability who is part of the Management Team.
To qualify as a contractor and major supplier of materials to Ellevio, we have extensive sustainability requirements that are specified in a special Code of Conduct addressed to suppliers.
Both Ellevio's Code of Conduct and the Supplier Code of Conduct are based on the Global Compact's ten principles and contain clear requirements in human rights, labor law, the environment and anti-corruption.
UN Sustainability Goals and Agenda 2030
The UN and world leaders have adopted 17 Sustainable Development Goals, which provides a shared blueprint for peace and prosperity for people and the planet.
The goals integrate and balance social, economic, and environmental sustainability, and it is everyone's responsibility to contribute to their achievement. Through a materiality analysis, Ellevio has identified the goals that are particularly relevant to our business:
Goal 7: Sustainable energy for all. Sustainable energy is the basis of our mission and is the purpose of Ellevio's investments. By developing the electricity infrastructure, we make more renewable electricity from solar and wind in society. It also includes achieving energy efficiency improvements, which, among other things, our investment in the next generation of smart electricity meters contributes to.
Goal 9: Sustainable industry, innovation and infrastructure. A secure electricity supply is a prerequisite for industry and entrepreneurship to be able to flourish and people to live and work throughout Sweden, in cities and rural areas. The electricity grid is also an enabler of the transition to a fossil-free society where industry and transport are powered by electricity.
Goal 11: Sustainable cities and communities. With a reliable and expanded electricity network, society can continue to be electrified and more people can be involved and make greener choices. We provide smart charging solutions for electric vehicles. By cabling our electricity network, we also create space for, among other things, more green areas and housing, while at the same time securing the network from the effects of the weather. Our electricity network plays an important role in sustainable urbanization and the development of the growing capital region.
Goal 13: Fight climate change. Electrification is an absolutely crucial part of the transition to a fossil-free society. We are modernizing the electricity networks so that the electrification of industry and transport can take place and to make it possible to expand renewable energy sources such as solar and wind power. When we do that, we also create jobs, which promotes growth. We also secure our electricity networks so that they withstand the weather impact that climate change brings with it. In addition, we work to limit the climate impact of our own operations.
In addition to all this, Ellevio also contributes to the following UN global goals: Goal 5: Equality, Goal 8: Decent work and economic growth Goal 15: Life on land, Goal 16: Peace, justice and strong institutions and Goal 17: Partnerships for the goals.
Global compact (UNGC)
UN Global Compact was established in 1999, at the initiative of the then Secretary-General Kofi Annan. He wanted to create international principles on human rights, labour law issues, the environment and corruption. Today, over 13,000 companies and organizations worldwide support the initiative and more are being added all the time. In 2017, Ellevio joined the Global Compact. Our Sustainability Reports contain information about Ellevio's work on the UN Global Compact's ten principles in the areas of human rights, labour law, the environment and anti-corruption and meet the requirement that we report on the progress of our sustainability work.
Our sustainability report (included in the Annual and Sustainability Report) constitutes Ellevio's Communication on Progress report against the UN Global Compact (UNGC) and the ten principles in the areas of human rights, labour law, the environment and anti-corruption.
Ellevio reports based on Global Reporting Initiatives (GRI) standards, level "core". GRI is a tool that helps companies understand and communicate about their impact on sustainability issues such as climate change, human rights, and the well-being of their employees.
